Frequently asked questions
- What is the product replacement warranty on GE transformers?
The warranty on all GE transformers is 1 year from the date of purchase
- What on-line tools are available to help my customers select and answer questions about GE transformers?
Several on-line tools are available to help select and answer questions about GE transformers.
- The GE e-Catalog is available on-line at www.GEelectrical.com then click on e-Catalog. The e-Catalog is designed to help you select the correct GE transformer model number based on your design specifications. The e-Catalog allows you to select the features you need to compare different models or pricing. When you have found the model you need, e-Catalog allows you to print a specification sheet and documentation for use in your project submittal
- The GE Publication Library is also available to help you find product drawings, spec sheets, test reports, and marketing brochures for all GE electrical distribution products. Go to www.GEelectrical.com and click on Publication Library. Search by Product # or scroll down to the transformer section at the bottom of the page.
- Where can I get drawings for transformers and accessories?
Transformer drawings are available via Speedi and the on-line resources mentioned above.
- The best place to get transformer documentation is via Speedi Win or Speedi Suite. Speedi is designed to be your most complete resource for transformers. When you select and add a transformer catalog number to your bill of material, Speedi will automatically download the outline drawing for your specific transformer. Speedi will also provide drawings for accessories like a wall mount bracket or rainshield kit as well as installation instructions.
- Transformer documentation is also available on-line at www.GEelectrical.com. Click on Publication Library then search by Product Number (i.e. 9T83K3892).
- You can also find documentation using the GE e-Catalog. Go to www.GEelectrical.com and click on e-Catalog. Click on the transformer photo to enter the transformer section or search by catalog number.
- Where can I find test data reports for GE transformers?
GE offers two types of test data reports for dry-type transformers. They include: a) Certified Test Report and b) Typical Test Data (TTD) report.
Certified Test Reports are created while a transformer is still in the factory, before it is shipped to the customer. Certified Test reports are unique to a specific transformer. A fee is charged for a Certified Test report and it must be ordered at the time the transformer is ordered. The Certified Test report is prepared by the GE Quality Manager and shipped with the transformer when it leaves the factory. It is easy to order a Certified Test Report. In Speedi, simply click on Accessories and select Certified Test Report. Speedi will add the Certified Test report to your bill of material and price it with the rest of the C&I components.
Typical Test Data (TTD) reports are simply that... typical. They are not unique to a specific transformer but are representative for a catalog number. TTD's are provided free of charge and may be found in the GE Publication Library. Just search by catalog number and a TTD report will be displayed if it is available.
- Who can I call for technical assistance?
For all technical questions regarding transformers, call GE Technical Support at 1-800-327-8155.
- Are lugs included with GE transformers?
Lugs are factory installed and provided with all transformers 15kVA thru 225kVA
- What do I do if the transformer arrives at the customer site and the enclosure has been damaged during shipment?
If it appears that the damage is minor and the enclosure has only sustained minor dents or scratches, top, side, front & rear replacement panels may be ordered free of charge from GE Resolve by calling 1-888-GE-RESOLVE or 1-888-437-3765. Open a service request and GE RESOLVE will ship new replacement panels to the customer.
If the damage is significant and it is possible that the internal core and coil assembly has sustained damage, the transformer should not be used and must be replaced. The correct procedure is for the customer to file a claim with the transportation company and re-order a new transformer from GE.
- Where can I find inrush data for GE transformers?
Inrush data for GE dry-type transformers is available on-line in the Publication Library at www.GEelectrical.com. Search by catalog number and in addition to the outline drawing, a data sheet is provided that lists inrush data and other specifications.
- Does GE offer cUL listed core & coil and encapsulated (small power) transformers?
Yes, a variety of small power transformers that are cUL listed are available for selection in Speedi.
- Why doesn't GE offer a standard NEMA 3R enclosure or free rainshields with its transformers?
NEMA 3R (outdoor rainproof) transformers are only required in 10% of all commercial installations. Rainshields are inexpensive and may be specified as an accessory when selecting a transformer in Speedi.
